Good service is expensive and Dell has learned - much as everyone else in the industry - that cheaper is better selling than good service.

That bug is well known with Symantec though just turn off email scan - you can turn off the email scan on all of your virusscan products - it's redundant anyway since anything you open from email will be scanned by the real-time scanner.

You made the right choice - McAfee is a better product (IMVHO)

After five calls to Dell's "customer support" and hours of frustration I've learned my lesson. I will never buy another Dell again.
